Culture Over Goals

In the past, I have gone into isolation and separation to achieve my goals. Sort of a departure from regular society as so many of us have. In a way, it keeps the fitness journey pure. A world you create to keep your goal running smoothly above all else. Ignoring social events, not going inside of restaurants, and keeping your phone on silent throughout the day all to make things seemingly easier. Whatever it takes that no one gets in the way or deters the goal at hand.

I have always found it absurd when people have one mode. The type of person who talks to their friends, mother, co-workers and spouse all the exact same way. I have always acted differently with each group. Adapting to the cultural dynamic within each group to fully absorb myself in being that person.

Wait…Don’t I prep for 6 months at a time? Doing the same selfish behavior over and over during times of contest? Am I not victim of the same (mono?) absurdity while living the fitness lifestyle? I have been in and out of contest preparations for the past 10 years. Successfully being all-in when it is time. Also managing to be partially committed at other times, just as happy.

In this video, I explain the method I follow of putting your culture before goals. Sometimes I am the lone international traveler. Sometimes I am my mother’s son. Sometimes I am thenattypro. Whatever my role calls for, I must first be all-in for the culture associated with that person.
